My current researches focus on the assessment of the scleractinian coral health and physiological condition, analyzing the impact of different stress factors which induce coral bleaching, mortality and coral diseases. In particular, I am focusing on the expression and the modulation of the Heat shock proteins and antioxidant enzymes as useful and accurate biomarkers.

I’m professor of cultural geography at the University of Milano-Bicocca. I’ve worked and published extensively on the relations between nature, culture, memory and landscape in different contexts, from the Mediterranean, to Japan. My research interests concern landscape and environment conservation, hazard and resilience, cultural and gender geography. My current research focus on the culture and heritage of the Maldives.

My research focuses on the coral health and diseases assessment of the Republic of Maldives and on new emerging symbioses involving the dominant animal of tropical reefs: the corals. All my activities are aimed at understanding the dynamics that will drive this ecosystem under a climate change scenario, in order to develop and propose environmental management plans.

I have a consolidate fieldwork experience in the Maldives and my main research topics concern social response to environmental changes, education for sustainable development, social and material adjustments to risk, cultural and political geography of the Maldives, the Maldivian tourism systems and its impact on environment, waste management, environmental policies.

I'm a marine geoscientist with expertise in seafloor imaging and mapping, using acoustic and optical remote sensing techniques. I investigate interactions between submarine geomorphic processes and bioconstructions (from cold-water carbonates to tropical coral reefs) to decipher the response of submarine landscapes and landforms to Pleistocene and Holocene climate changes.

She is Full Professor of Geography at the Department of Sociology and Social Research, University of Milano-Bicocca. She is also Vice President of the International Geographical Union (IGU-UGI), Council Member of the Società Geografica Italiana and Chair of the research group AGeI "Island Studies". Her research interests focus on political geography and gender issues (nation building processes and regional iconographies in Europe and in Asia; European borders and their role as identity markers; cities as symbolic landscapes and political places/spaces; the political geography of masculinity). She has been working on rural and urban deprivation, and she is also interested in urban developments and transformations.

Clinical Psychologist, cognitive psychotherapists, consolidate fieldwork experience on groups dynamics, counselling and group support in emergency (COVID-19), my main research topics concern health psychology, psychological treatment effectiveness, medical education and communication in national and international environment. As member of the Mahre Centre I have done several trainings on communications and clinical psychology for the Maldives Ministry and I have in charge the training on communication skillls and group dynamics for the MaRHE Centre since its beginning

I am a marine biologist mainly interested in the biology and ecology of coral reef ecosystems. For my PhD studies, I am working on the biodiversity, ecology and evolution of tropical symbiotic hydrozoans, integrating ecological, morphological and molecular approaches.

I am a postdoctoral researcher with an in-depth knowledge of coral reef environments, especially in the Maldives, where I am running research activities for almost six years. My research topics are mainly focused on Remote Sensing mapping and monitoring techniques of threatened coastal marine environments. Along these years of research, I developed skills in piloting drones and collecting aerial data on coral reef environments. These new skills have led to an increase in passion for aerial shootings and videos.

I'm a Ph.D. student working on the study of corallivory and its role as an important trophic process of tropical coral reefs. In particular, I aim to clarify the role of poorly studied corallivorous organisms as drivers of coral mortality through a multidisciplinary approach that includes ecological and molecular analyses

I worked in the social services setting of the Maldives with a background in psychology and communication before I joined MaRHE. Work has always been a blast and I feel proud to be part of a team that produces exiting new research and academic activities. I have contributed to a novel research, ‘Use of legal and illegal substances in Malé (Republic of Maldives) assessed by wastewater analysis’ and hope to continue to bring my strength to the team.

I am a molecular ecologist. Since my PhD (1997, Cambridge University) I have been working mostly on marine mammals’ population genetics and social structure (e.g. the University of Queensland and the University of New South Wales, Australia). More recently I have been involved in the study of marine environmental DNA (eDNA) at the University of Milano-Bicocca, leading different biodiversity monitoring surveys both in the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean.

Interpreter and translator, international environments are my home. Having experienced the dynamism of the Erasmus Office of the University of Pavia, after years of travelling and working as an interpreter, and after accompanying hundreds of students in the development of their foreign language curricula, I’ve landed at Marhe Center, which I enthusiastically support in its organizational and administrative aspects.
