A NEW HAND GEL SANITIZER CREATED WITH NATURAL MALDIVIAN PRODUCTS, PREPARED BY BICOCCA UNIVERSITY LOCATED IN MAGOODHOO ISLAND FAAFU ATOLL
The hand gel sanitizer is made exclusively of natural Maldivian ingredients, and is based on a formulation developed by the Marine Research and High Education Center (MaRHE Center), located in Magoodhoo Faafu Atoll. The gel can easily be produced by Resorts, as well as the local community.
The main ingredients are extracted from coconut, while the scent comes from local flower petals such as frangipani. The hand sanitizer has been prepared in compliance with the World Health Organization (WHO) Guidelines on Hand Hygiene in Health Care.
The Marine Research and High Education Center (MaRHECenter) is an educational hub of excellence of the University Milano-Bicocca, and was officially inaugurated on January 28th, 2009. The Center’s purpose is to carry out research and educational activities in the fields of environmental science and marine biology, tourism science and human geography. It also aims to educate as to how to protect this fragile environment and its biodiversity, as well as to use and manage its resources responsibly.
In a spirit of cooperation, the University of Milano-Bicocca has also donated disposable face masks to the entire Magoodhoo community, to help protect the population from the Covid-19 health threat.
Paolo Galli, Director of the MaRHE Center, says: “We are honoured to be present in the Maldives on the island of Magoodhoo, and to offer the local community our small contribution in the fight against Coronavirus.
We are happy to provide the sanitizing gel recipe to anyone who requested it, as well as to assist them in its preparation. In this difficult time for humanity, it is important to work together.”
